Not an art facility or gallery (perhaps it could be from a certain point of view) but a visit to sushi restaurants gave me a great idea too. Most of the Sushi bars were designed to look Japanese. In other words, they were designed under a concept of “Japanese”. The color unity, photos, calligraphy, paintings, wall paintings, decoration were mostly an association of classical Japanese style art or itself. Looking at those, I thought that those may be helpful to create a Japanese atmosphere and actually tried to apply those for my web pages however, I did not have a camera at that time, so I just borrowed the idea of using a color that strongly associate Japan like Red and white (the colors of national flag) were the color I chose
Finally I got not only a color choice but a lot of ideas however, I lost the fight against the time. No matter whatever inspiration I got, I couldn’t use them fully but rather less than half. Probably the reason I lost was because wondered too much on deciding my topic and also over spread my hands (not pin pointed). I will do better next time with a better planning.
The visit to my karate school helped me designing the logo for the web page.
I was wondering how to express a Japanese atmosphere for the logo of my web page.
The theory tells to use something peculiar to Japanese culture like calligraphy, cultural photos. But, if I just use those, non Japanese people would may not understand what the web site is about and just leave. Not all people stays and go through the page without knowing what it’s about. The top page and the logo should tell what it’s about and the screen called byo-bu that I saw at the karate school gave me an idea.
Byo-bu is a Japanese folding screen made from several joined panels bearing decorative painting and calligraphy, used to separate interiors and enclose private spaces, among other uses. From this I thought of combining photos with Japanese Kanji and English cursive script. However, due to the lack of working time, I could not make a satisfactory logo. The time to collect images, font selection, color choice did not allow me to make a logo which reaches passing grade however, this was-somewhat too broad-but was a inspiration. Furthermore, it made me decide to come back to the original three columns layout. Furthermore, I spend too much time on figuring out navbar techs although I believe it was worth doing it.
